2006 INTERLUDE CABERNET FRANC

Interlude is unfiltered and hand-bottled. The wine is the epitome of hand-crafted and artisinal.

With Interlude the vineyard is the master, and the wine derives from soils known to be among the most complex and nutrient rich of any vineyard. The wine derives from an area within the Central Coast famed for its limestone -- the soil constituent, above all, necesssary to produce the great wines.

The 1.5 acre Interlude vineyard is known for the natural grape -- grape vines which grow on their own root, not a hybrid.

INTERLUDE :: CABERNET FRANC

Interlude echoes the drama of the vineyard tucked in a valley ensconced in the mountains of Big Sur. This is a vineyard of profound dimension and storied soils. The 1.5 acre Interlude limestone vineyard, with the world's longest growing season, produces fruit flavors of wondrous complexity and individuality.

With Interlude there is no distracting herbaceousness that characterizes, if not dooms, so many Cabernet Francs.

Interlude opens with a full, clean orchestral burst of black currants, ripe cherry, cedar, and wild violets then turns fascinatingly complex yet elegant in the long, pensive finish.

This is the interlude between sensual desire and sublime rapture. But always the mystery, always the unexpected... that inexplicable moment never forgotten.

With a glass of Interlude and Mahler's 5th Symphony you can discover the meaning of life.

focus and inspiration

motif creates non-commercial, artisan wines for those dedicated to the signature of the soil painstakingly expressed through the ultimate terroir.

motif wines derive from carefully selected specific rows and sections determined from over a decade of university research. Some of these rows exist on the top of a volcano with igneous soils that are as rich as any on earth.

The vineyard has become the center of the academic viticultural world because of confluence of soils rarely seen but known for grape perfection and intense varietal expression.
