The 150-year-old adobe structure -- the Clayhouse itself -- is the ideal symbol for Clayhouse and the Middleton Family where traditions and deep passion for agricultural enterprises go back more than four generations. Like the time-tested adobe, Clayhouse wines are created from the earth, cultivated by hand, and nurtured by family traditions and ideals.
Clayhouse extends that proud legacy with its selection of exceptional wines, all hand-crafted in a refined, elegant style that reflects the unique character of Paso Robles.
Clayhouse Red Cedar Estate Vineyard east of Paso Robles provides the grapes for this classic Petite Sirah. At Red Cedar the vines are planted on a moderate rolling benchland above the Estrella River.
All of the fruit for Old Vine Petite came from Block 43, which consistently produces the richest and most complex Petite Sirah at Red Cedar Vineyard. Block 43 is own-rooted, and is planted in clay-loam and silty clay-loam soil that holds moisture well and helps prevent fruit damage and plant stress during summer heat spells.
The block is planted 7’ x 11’ which is generous by current plantings around California and allows the vines room to grow, expand their roots, and ensure mineral uptake into the vine plants.
